2026 IRS mileage rates for Etsy & Shopify sellers
Self-employed sellers who qualify to use the standard mileage rate need the mid-year change baked into their log — 72.5¢ then 76¢.
Official 2026 business standard mileage rates
From the IRS Standard mileage rates table:
| Period | Business rate |
|---|---|
| Jan 1 – Jun 30, 2026 | 72.5 cents per mile |
| Jul 1 – Dec 31, 2026 | 76 cents per mile |
Charitable rate remains 14 cents per mile (statutory). Medical and certain military/intelligence moving rates also changed mid-year — see the same IRS table if those apply to you.
How sellers usually use this
- Supply runs, post office / shipping-center trips, craft fairs, and client meetings may qualify when they are ordinary and necessary business travel — facts matter.
- Choose standard mileage vs actual expenses carefully; IRS rules limit switching in some situations for owned vehicles.
- Parking and tolls may be deductible separately when properly substantiated.

Questions, answered
Can employees use the 2026 business mileage rate on Schedule A?
Generally, miscellaneous itemized deductions subject to the 2% floor remain disallowed for many unreimbursed employee expenses. Business standard mileage is commonly used by self-employed taxpayers on Schedule C. Confirm current IRS rules for your status.
Do I need a log if I use the standard mileage rate?
Yes. Keep contemporaneous records of business miles, dates, and purposes. The rate alone is not substantiation.
